The first screening at The New Royalty Cinema was sold out about a week beforehand. Thank you to everyone for your support, it was a great night to see the May Woollerton Hall full for the screening of Victoria and Abdul. Thank you to all the volunteers who have made this a real Community Cinema event.

On the 30th of May 1959 Bourne End’s cinema closed for the last time. The Royalty screened films for 25 years since it opened in 1934. Its typical 1930s Art Deco style building still stands on the corner of The Parade and Wakeman Road. After its closure Bourne Enders have had to travel to cinemas in Marlow (until its cinema also closed), Wycombe or Maidenhead.

Gold bunting, gold balloons and people enjoying tea from vintage cups. Celebrations had started to recall 50 years since the Community Centre was built and opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire. There were moments to look back, remember and delight in a building that had grown bigger and provided space for thousands of occasions.
