For our second November film we will be screening the George Clooney film "O Brother Where Art Thou" at The New Royalty Cinema on Saturday 29th Nov at 19:00.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? – A Joyful Journey Through Music, Mischief and Myth - From the brilliant minds of Joel and Ethan Coen comes O Brother, Where Art Thou?, a wildly original comedy adventure that blends Americana folklore, toe-tapping music and razor-sharp wit. Starring George Clooney in one of his most charismatic roles, the film is a vibrant reimagining of Homer’s Odyssey, transported to the sun-drenched Deep South of the 1930s.
The story follows three escaped convicts – Ulysses Everett McGill (Clooney), Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson) and Pete (John Turturro) – who embark on a quest for hidden treasure. Along the way they encounter a colourful cast of characters: siren-like singers, a blind prophet, a crooked politician and the notorious gangster Baby Face Nelson. Their misadventures unfold against the backdrop of the Great Depression, with each twist weaving myth, comedy and satire into an unforgettable road movie. A true highlight of the film is its celebrated soundtrack. Produced by T Bone Burnett, the collection of traditional folk, gospel and bluegrass songs became a cultural phenomenon, winning Grammy Awards and introducing a new generation to the beauty of American roots music. The rousing anthem “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” remains iconic, perfectly capturing the spirit of the film.
With its rich visuals, witty dialogue and a pitch-perfect cast, O Brother, Where Art Thou? is both a hilarious romp and a heartfelt tribute to storytelling traditions. Whether you love clever comedy, timeless music or simply a great cinematic adventure, this is a film that will leave you smiling long after the credits roll.
