Question on the front page asks if Bourne End could be the best kept village in Bucks? It’s all down to presentation as the Parish Council have entered the competition for the first time. Also on the front page is good news for The Garibaldi community owned pub as it scored high in a countrywide survey. It is ‘friendly and welcoming’. Then great news for Target readers and the community magazine as a generous donation means that pictorial first class stamps can be purchased at a huge discount and is a fund raiser for the magazine.
A highlight of page 4 is a poster relating to a Spruce Up Day at the community centre inviting people to come along and help with cleaning, touch-up painting and some maintenance. It’s on Saturday 25 April from 10am to 4pm with refreshments provided. They would love to see you there. Lots of information about events can be found on these pages at the start of the magazine including information about the AGM at the beginning of June and Bourne End’s own Repair Cafe opening on Saturday 19 April.
Celebrating a Platinum Wedding Anniversary, that’s 70 years, is on page 7 and the happy couple have always supported events at the community centre. That makes them extra special. On page 11 the residents of Wooburn Bales retirement home welcomed Penny from Great Wines on-line for a wine tasting featuring lots of varieties that would have been new to the palette. It was a lovely occasion for a wet afternoon. Then at the community centre there’s news of automatic sliding doors that have made life so much easier for people coming and going.

Rev Dave Bull made a difference in Little Marlow and now he has been consecrated as Bishop of Buckingham. Read Sandra Carter’s feature on a special man who now steps up in ceremonial vestments but is still just Dave to so many. And he loves sailing on the River Thames as a member of the Upper Thames Sailing Club for many years. On page 29 we meet Marina who has taken over as the new manager at the Princes Centre which operates at Bourne End Day Centre and bid a fond farewell to Mags.
Past Times on page 32 is a history of Wooburn Narkovians Cricket Club written by Ken Townsend and on page 33 there’s an appeal for new players to join the club and play on a wonderful village location. Calendar on page 35 is packed with information about events taking place over April and May. Then test your grey cells with The Falcon quiz on page 36.
