A tale of two star-crossed lovers, The Notebook tells the story of Noah and Allie, two young people from very different backgrounds who fall in love, much to the anger of Allie's parents, who take her away from the area. Set in the1940s, the film plays out against the background of World War II. Noah enlists in the army but cannot forget Allie. She, however, meets a soldier returned from Europe and falls in love with him, putting her feelings for Noah to one side. When Noah returns from the war the two meet again and rekindle their feelings for each other. and Allie is faced with having to make an agonising choice.

The Notebook is based on a novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. It stars Ryan Gosling, in his first major film role, and Rachel McAdams.
