For our April 2022 centreTalk John Gurney will talk about the history of the Wycombe Railway which ran from Maidenhead to High Wycombe until 1970. Note this is a change from March to April.

This line opened in 1854, forming part of the original line from Paddington to Birmingham. Trains ran from Maidenhead via Cookham, Bourne End, Wooburn and Loudwater to High Wycombe with later connections to Aylesbury, Oxford and London. At Bourne End there was, and still is, a branch line to Marlow. This talk was originally scheduled to co-incide with the 50th anniversary of the closure of the railway line from Bourne End to High Wycombe on 2 May 1970.

This event is staged in conjunction with the Marlow-Maidenhead Passengers' Association (MMPA), which was set up in 1972 to fight to ensure that the remainder of the line, and the branch to Marlow, did not suffer the same fate and, if possible, to work towards the re-opening of the closed section."
