20190324 Womens Suffrage

March's centreTalk by Colin Oakes is a study of Womens suffrage from 1865-1928 looking at the various groups fighting for women's votes. The focus is on the " Suffragettes " and the suffragists.

The militancy of the suffragettes will be compared with the political methods of the suffragists and who truly gained women the vote.An attempt will be made to see the real reason for the 1918 Representation of the Peoples Act and the role of women in getting it passed by war work during the First world war. Finally the important question will be asked, were the Suffragettes freedom fighters or terrorists?
