Woman in Gold, released in 2015, is a powerful and compelling film that tells the extraordinary true story of Maria Altmann, portrayed by Helen Mirren, and her remarkable quest for justice. This gripping drama captures the emotional journey of Altmann, a Jewish refugee, who fights the Austrian government for the restitution of a priceless family painting – Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, often referred to as the 'Woman in Gold.'

The film elegantly weaves together the past and the present, as Altmann, together with her young lawyer Randol Schoenberg (played by Ryan Reynolds), embarks on a legal battle that spans decades. Through flashbacks, viewers witness the harrowing events of World War II and the heartbreaking loss of her family’s treasures to the Nazis. This moving narrative explores themes of memory, resilience, and the importance of standing up for what is right, no matter how insurmountable the odds may seem.

Directed by Simon Curtis, Woman in Gold is both an emotionally resonant drama and a thrilling courtroom saga.
