20201115 Emma

The director, being an artist by trade, has taken this latest version of the beloved story of Emma. and made a movie that is an art piece itself. Austin fans will know that Emma is, well, a spoiled brat. She is arrogant, selfish and naive but good hearted as anyone would expect of a twenty year old rich young woman of Jane Austen's time. The director has taken care to make sure that the mood of the first half of this film mirrors that of the title character. All the rooms, interactions and conversation feel rather synthetic and great detail has been put into the superficial. The result is quite spectacular.

As the film progresses, so too does the heroine who becomes continuously less "unfeeling" through very hard lessons and the criticism of course of Mr. Knightly. The change is so gradual to the mood of the film that you will not notice it has happened. You will simply find yourself in love with the film around the same time that you find that Emma is a red blooded human like us all.

COVID-19 social distancing requirements - please read before making a purchase

As no-one knows if step-4 of the government roadmap out of COVID-19 lockdown will take place on 21st June or not, this screening is being managed under current, step-3, restrictions.

Each booking is for 1 to 4 people to be seated at one table. No other bookings will be taken for that table so NO ONE ELSE WILL SIT AT YOUR TABLE.

It is a legal requirement that all people attending must wear a face mask or shield. We will attempt to seat any person with a legal exemption 2m from other tables but this cannot be guaranteed. It is also a legal requirement to provide your contact details when entering the Community Centre. This will be done as part of the ticket booking process. When you enter the cinema just give your name so we can confirm that you have arrived.

Do not arrive at the venue more than 20 mins before the film start time. Entrance to the cinema will be via the side door to the right of the Target Room, please observe the distancing markings on the floor. Everyone must use the hand sanitiser provided on entry. Do not enter the Centre via the foyer except to use the bar before entering the cinema (you will need to follow the bar exit path and enter the cinema via the side door). If wet please wait in your car and/or bring an umbrella - you will not be able to enter the foyer to keep dry. There will be no kitchen available and the bar will only be open after the film.

On arrival do not join the queue until everyone who will sit at your table has arrived, everyone sitting on your table should queue together. Your party will be assigned a table to sit at by our volunteers. No negotiation on table allocation will be entered into. This is to ensure we get people seated as safely as possible. Once seated you should not leave your table until the film has finished. If you need a toilet visit one of our volunteers will assist you to and from your seat.

We apologise for the above requirements but they are for the safety of all our cinema goers and our volunteers. Please bring your own paper and pen in case you wish to provide feedback which we encourage.
