20190324 Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

This is a gripping story of one group of people on the Channel Island of Guernsey during the German occupation of world war 2.

Sympathetically told, this story shares the horrors that this Island of people went through and how their compassion could lead to their downfall. Bringing together some wonderful actors, the film is set in 1946 with flashbacks to the war years. A writer called Juliet Ashton is drawn to the island by the chance encounter of a farmer and a book that once belonged to her.

What follows is a tale of her struggle to discover their stories and the dilemma that faces her on whether to publish their very private experiences or not. It is also a story of love, and of survival. Beautifully shot with scenery well matched to the emotion, this film is a joy to watch.
