the producersThe Producers (best Oscar for Mel Brooks' Writing, Story and Screenplay) will be screened at The New Royalty Cinema on Thursday 25th October 2018. This original 1967 version casts the unusual yet hilarious combination of Zero Mostel as Max Bialystock, a has been Broadway Producer, with Gene Wilder (Oscar nominated for his performance) as neurotic accountant Leo Bloom.

Bialystock used to be the king of Broadway but is now down on his luck after a string of failures. Bloom is sent to audit him and together they realise that there is more money to be made from producing a sure-fire flop than a hit.

Their scheme just needs them to find their guaranteed flop. Everything must fail. The music must be awful, the plot must stink, the set design must be dreadful and the story must be offensive. They come across the perfect script in "Springtime for Hitler" written by a former Nazi (Kenneth Mars). Bialystock finds the worst director, the worst choreographer to create the worst dance scenes, the worst set designer and the worst performers possible.

This is so bad they expect the show to close after one performance. But does it? Well you will have to come to The New Royalty Cinema to find out. Actually who are we kidding - there wouldn't be a film in it if the show flopped would there? So come along anyway to laugh and cringe with the rest of us.

The Producers is generally regarded as one of Brooks' finest (and indeed his first) film with Mostel and Wilder putting in wonderful performance. "The Producers" has to be seen to be believed as indeed does "Springtime for Hitler" but that is another story, or is it the same story???
