The August/September issue of Target Magazine has two special people, Ken Townsend and Bill Cleere, on the front page.
Summer months and this issue has two special people on the front page. One is Ken Townsend as the exhibition of his local postcard collection brought hundreds into the Community Centre for a nostalgic walk around how our local area used to look. The other is Rotarian Bill Cleere who was awarded an MBE for voluntary services to the community and training football referees over many years. Bill received his award from the Princess Royal at Windsor Castle.
On page seven there’s an interview with vocalist Andrew Bourn on how he found the music he loves to sing and his musical journey entertaining countless audiences with his stage appearances. On page 8 there’s a lively poster for Parkfest, organised by Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council, on Saturday 31 August. It includes the, now famous, Duck Race along the River Wye in Wooburn Park.
Pages 10 and 11 feature pictures from the various fairs and fetes that have already taken place. Spare a few moments to check through for faces you recognise. Then on page 12 there’s the WOW picture showing Georgia Carmichael at the end of her cycle ride through Snowdonia. A year ago Target featured Georgia in her hospital bed receiving a BBC Make a Difference Award from TV personality, Lorraine Kelly.
On page 22 read about the outdoor fitness classes led by Julian Bazley and the enjoyment they bring. River Wildlife is on page 23 with some delightful pictures of new life on the river. Details of Wooburn Festival are on page 24 with a full-page advertisement on the back page. History through research is the subject for the new One Place Study Group now meeting regularly at the Community Centre. They have a ‘History of Shortlands’ talk booked for 15 August.
On page 28 the ‘I remember..’ article features on weddings and how they have changed since Target started on its 60 volume journey. On page 32 Past Times features the Spicer family and their involvement in the local paper mills. A reunion sparked the memories and brought family members together from around the world. And on page 33 there’s a picture from a hundred years ago showing the Marlow Donkey steam train on its way from Marlow to Bourne End.
Lots more to read as you enjoy the summer weather.
